    Considering 6-12 months used to be the standard guarantee for building work like this,well done for going back. I agree with your assessment re:-drainage wrong bricks etc. Few builders would do this at shared cost or free. You certainly misread the ground conditions the first time, you recognise that and your solution is correct class A engineering brick will work, however, your just masking the problem. If both properties were up for it the proper solution is a land drain on next doors property behind the wall as well as as a rebuild of party wall with weep holes. Your solution is the cheapest and you shouldn't have to ever go back. all credit to you shows good character and professionalism. I do think in this case that the client should meet you part way and pay for materials. Well done 👍 I would definitely recommend considering your work ethic.

    Only other way is us to use concrete, either L shaped forms craned in or building it in situ, would allow you to get closer and avoid the need for butreses. Neighbours trees would possibly still be an issue and the budget would be a lot more. You made the right decision. It's a shame though, I hope they find a builder to take it on. If they done a rebuild then you would have access for heavy machinery for the concrete wall.

    I believe Building methods for the time was faux wattle and dorb timber frame with brick infill. Poor quality brickwork is not unusual for areas that where not seen. The history of cowboy builders goes back a long way.

    What about the cold bridge at the top of the wall where it meets the roof? Did you put insulation in the cavity to meet the roof? Because if not, when you put the insulation on the roof you’ll have a big non insulated gap between the raters, from the roof to the insulation in the cavity.

    Hi, I wanted to turn my garage into 1 bed studio, however my garage is at the front of the property, the only man hole I can see is at the back of the property. The next next door neighbour on the left has man hole in his garden. I rang severn trent and they sent me some forms which i really don't understand. Whats my best bet, try and investigate on my own getting sewer maps or just calling in professional, builder doesn't want to touch the drainage system. I'm in Leicester if you know anyone round here.

    If i may have a geus. The problem is that moisture from the top sucks in from above ( when raining for example). And if you you have caulk in your mortar . It will dissolve after time . Never use premixed mortar outside . There is a lot of caulk in it to make it smooth to mix. Its a bit tricky to explain but i am builder from the netherlands

    Fantastic video as always, always look forward to Sundays! I'm not a builder but a cabinet maker and I would like to think a knowledgeable diyer. I recently took my plastic gutter down to clean (bungalow). My question is, would it be possible to take the gutter down on your flat roof, or just replace a fitting? I'm referring to the way the trim sits in the gutter. Sorry if this is a dumb question! Keep up the great work guys. Thanks for the knowledge and the entertainment! I have a question about drainage again... as it stands it looks like the gutter of roof 3 will have to deal with all the rain falling on roof 3, plus roof 1 and on top of that half the roof of the original house, is there not a high risk of overflowing in a downpour? I'm a fan of the Gate City Foundation Drainage channel and Sean is always saying "once water is in a pipe, keep it in a pipe", so maybe the water from roof 1 and the top of the house should somehow be kept in down pipes instead of flowing on top of roof 3? But I wouldn't know how to do that...

      @mrabuilders6723 4 дня назад

      Hi Robert. As you may have seen in this episode we talked about having two different types on this roof that didn’t fit together. This is because these OSB sheets are 8’ x 2’ tongue and groove which allows us to span between rafters and not have to go onto the centre of each flat roof rafter like standard OSB or other sheet materials. Hope this explains your question. Thanks for watching. 👍🏻
